2. Why should I care where a Diseqc Switch is Manufactured?

The Diseqc Switch was originally invented and designed for European Satellite Receivers. It’s now the worldwide standard for Free to Air Receivers. Germany is one of the leaders in producing Quality Diseqc Switches with a Low dB loss. Companies like Spaun, Baff and B.E.S.T are designed by German Manufacturers. Another Good switch manufacturer is EMP Centauri, made in the Czech Republic. The standard is very high in Europe and the Quality control is second to none. European switches cost more to produce due to labor costs, quality material costs and the High Euro dollar.

China has produced some good quality switches, the Chieta brand was one of them. The Original Chieta Heavy Duty Diseqc was quality made and had a very low dB loss. Unfortunately the original Chieta manufacturer stop making Diseqc switches since cheap knock-offs took over its market. China has the ability to make some of the best quality electronics in the world but it’s overshadowed by all the counterfeit factories making cheap replicas. 3. What problems can a cheap diseqc switch cause?

Common issues we hear from our customers:

Problem #1: When using multiple receivers in one house, one receiver works fine but the other receiver doesn't work.
Solution: Cheap switches may draw too much power from one port of the LNBF which causes the other port to be weaker. Use two quality Diseqc switches which grabs equal amount of power from each LNBF ports. We recommend using the same brand Diseqc for multi receiver setups.

Problem #2: I get no signal from my satellite
Solution: To determine if it’s a switch issue, disconnect the switch and connect the cable directly to your receiver. Often times one of more of the diseqc ports may be blown. Always make sure your receiver is powered off when connecting or disconnecting any cables from your diseqc switch or receiver. High Quality switches can withstand power surges better than cheap switches.

Problem #3: Changing a channel from one satellite to another satellite isn’t working
Solution: The simple answer is the Switch isn't Switching. Check your settings and test to see if your Diseqc switch is fully functioning.

4. How can I determine if my Diseqc Switch is High Quality?

We recommend researching Diseqc Brands by reading forums, review sites or blogs such as this. Most reputable brands have a big customer following. Diseqc switches may look the same but the quality of build will differ greatly.

Here are some signs to determine a Quality Diseqc switch:
-You can usually feel a weight difference between an expensive and cheap switch.
-The back of the switch should be 100% sealed from any moisture. The front and Back should look flush with each other, as if it’s one solid piece. Cheap switches use excessive amount of glue to hide its imperfections.
-The lower dB loss rating is better however most labels are misleading. If the Diseqc brand is reputable you should have real ratings ranging from 2dB to 5dB loss.
-Plastic waterproof casing is a must for North American weather conditions, especially when using a Diseqc outdoors.
